Gilding Brushes Where to Buy
“Gilder’s Tip”, “Mop”, and “Gilder’s Duster” are essential tools in oil gilding. Prior to lifting the gold leaf off the Gilder’s Cushion with the tip “Gilders” will move the brush over their hair or the palm of the hand, this action will oil the brush lightly and create static for good hold of the metal leaf to the brush. The gold is then attached by “dusting it to the properly prepared base with the soft squirrel or goat hair mop. This brush may be set into a double quill, a number of chipped quills which also serve as the handle.

Series 410 & 450 Gilder’s Dusters: In the Oval shape it is used to dust away skewings from freshly gilded surfaces. In the Square edge (flat) shape it is used to tamp-down gold & metal leaf onto a prepared sized surface. Series 410, which is made of Russian Blue Squirrel hair, is used for higher karat gold work. Series 450, which is Black Goat hair, is used for lower karat gold, silver and composition (metal) leaf.
